awa news Introducing Our New Board Directors AWA is pleased to welcome three new directors to it Board, following the departure of Jeff Camkin and Carmine Ciccocioppo. Peter Moore, Chief Operating Officer, Water Corporation of Western Australia Peter has been a member of the Australian Water Association (AWA) since the early 1970s, during which time he has been a regular member of the Western Australian Branch Committee and served as Branch President. This is his second stint on the AWA Board. Peter has also been a member of the Board's Governance and Audit Committee over the last four years. He has a strong interest in Governance and was involved when AWA developed its current constitution and corporate structure. In addition to his interest in Governance, Peter says he is keen to ensure that the industry retains and further develops the skill set that it needs to be sustainable in the future. A further focus is in ensuring the industry is properly supported as it moves forward. Peter believes that this will in part be accomplished by AWA building strong relationships to enable its advocacy activities are heard and supported at the most senior levels of government. "This will be particularly important as governments begin to feel water is no longer an issue due to the recent rains in many parts of the country, though unfortunately not in south-western Australia," he says. Peter is a civil engineer by profession and has additional qualifications in business management. He has been employed by the Water Corporation for more than 40 years in various roles. Having commenced his career as an operations engineer, he progressed through various engineering and project management roles before being involved in restructure of the water industry in Western Australia and, ultimately, the establishment of the Water Corporation in 1996. Since 1996 he has held various general managerial positions and now holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. "The Water Corporation is among the largest geographic utilities in the world and, along with Sydney Water, the largest utility in Australia. I bring a wealth of utility and water industry general experience to this role," Peter says. When not at work Peter likes to keep fit through bike riding and sailing in summer and playing hockey in the winter. He has three grown-up sons with whom he enjoys the occasional game of golf.
